WAITING IN EGYPT

WAITING IN EGYPT

$175.00

This donkey (Equius asinus) was and still is the most important load carrier in Egypt since ancient times. They are not known for their sweetness but I appreciate them for ploughing the seed into the ground and carry myself often from one place to another.

Unfortunate for both donkey and mule, the only depictions in Old Kingdom artistry is on a few tomb-chapel reliefs but they never seemed to have played an important part in Egyptian religious iconography. Without achieving symbols of high status (like that of the feline/canine kind) they simply don't show up much in this cultures ancestry.

I, however, feel that hanging this piece in one's space reminds us of the many creatures (humans included) that labor and toil to create better lives for us all without much notoriety or fame. Let's give it up for the ASS.
