In Indian culture water is linked to every social aspect of life. All over India people throng for a dip in the holy rivers to wash away their sins and remain the Hindu symbol for purification of the soul and rejuvenation of the mind.
The very special faith and respect for the rivers and the Ganges in particular are as old as Indian culture itself. Additionally, "divined" water is consumed in temples after puja worship rituals; idols of worship are sprinkled with water (abhishekam); and a plantain leaf kept for a meal is cleaned with water and a prayer. These and many other rituals highlight the significance of water and why even today it is worshiped as MOTHER.
This image reminds us of the unique blessing our waters provide for all of life's mysteries.
