Yanapuma's founder Megan Schoenbachler personally commissioned this one of a kind artwork to capture the embodiment of pure balance. Each Spirit mask is hand carved in wood and plated in beaded designs which transmit visualizations from ceremonial rites with the yagé plant.
Artist Willan Chicunque, from the Sibundoy Valley of Colombia, describes this piece as the Spirit of the Wind and a symbol of Freedom.
His depth of colors represent energetic symbols, which via medicine, can transport us to live our lives actively liberated. This work additionally expresses the Guaira in the leaves, being an energy cleansing instrument, which serves to cleanse our body, mind and spirit. At its center is the force of wisdom that the Curaca has to make its connection with the sacred Yagé plant and with us.
Specifically represented in this masterful work are the colors as such: The greens carry the symbol of the mother earth and the queen of the great jungle spirits combined with medicinal plants that help us heal different energetic diseases. The circles symbolize the harmony circulating in the active spiritual being of our Taitas, Curacas or Elders as we might think of them. In the crown appears the colors of the great boa which symbolize healing and protection. This crown is a representation of jungle/ forest wisdom made manifest. A wisdom we have mostly forgotten yet strive to reactivate in these times!
Choosing to steward this art into your life is a powerful decision and we are so excited to usher such potent medicine to those who feel the calling.
